Start a Mentorship Program

Consider partnering new or less experienced employees with mentors. For example, an up-and-coming sales rep might benefit from sitting in on sales planning sessions or attending important off-site customer meetings with a more senior employee.

ATW to Offer Sessions on Building High Performing Teams in 2015

At ATW, we seek to understand our clients' needs so we can help with solutions! And what we've heard is "enabling successful teamwork within organizations is easier said than done."

Therefore, we have established "Developing High PerformingTeams" as our theme for 2015. And we are excited about one topic in particular and it falls into this framework, which is cross functional collaboration.

Often times, "teamwork" in the business sense refers to a marketing team, production team, or other departments within an organization looking to work better together. But what happens when the "team" consists of individuals representing completely different departments or functions and is assigned the task of accomplishing something bigger? We see it all the time--the goals and priorities of various departments do not align, people's actions unknowingly hinder progress in other areas, and there is often an undertone of unaddressed conflict. All of these factors can result in the "team" being anything but a team. At ATW we have developed course content which includes realistic and sustainable solutions for the unique challenges faced by cross functional teams.

Our development approach started by identifying what successful cross functional teams (or any team for that matter) need to do to be successful. We found the concepts presented in Ken Blanchard's Team Performance Concepts® are perfect for laying this foundational element. Next, we have been working hard to identify the most common pitfalls that commonly get in the way of cross functional team environments. After putting our brains together, lots of research, and obtaining feedback from our customers, we have identified twelve "The Dirty Dozen" pitfalls to cross functional collaboration. Participants who attend our class will be given the opportunity to assess their own cross functional team (new or existing) and will learn to identify the pitfalls most prevalent or likely to occur on their team.  Once identified, class time will be structured to focus on those specific pitfalls. Further, participants will leave the session with an action plan to address their issues, as well as practical tips for addressing other, less prevalent problems.

We look forward to offering this class in 2015. Hope to see you in the classroom!
