Congratulations to Our Recent Management Development Program Graduates

We're pleased to announce that 10 participants (4 not pictured) graduated from our recent Management Development Program! This group began the program in October, 2016 and represented a variety of industries, including health care, investment services, banking and financial services. Participants completed the 10-month blended learning program that combines classroom training, self-study, eLearning, live webinars and podcasts.

Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) 

ATW was pleased to recently host and share best practices with several class members of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) coordinated by Drake University.  The YALI program was started by President Barack Obama as part of the Nelson Mandela Fellowship Program.  YALI Fellows are young leaders from Kenya, South Africa, Senegal and Ghana who have established records of accomplishment in promoting innovation and positive change in their organizations, institutions, communications and countries.  It was great to share thoughts and ideas and learn from these young leaders who are making such a significant impact on their worlds!

Free White Paper: Developing Self Leaders:  A Competitive Advantage for Organizations

The nature of leadership continues to evolve as organizational structures and business models evolve. Top-heavy leadership approaches are shifting and in their place, individual contributors are being asked to step up in new ways, take on more responsibility, contribute differently, and look for ways to empower themselves-essentially to become self leaders.

In 2010, researchers Parker and Collins maintained that self leadership defined as proactivity is gaining in importance because of increased competitive pressures and the demand for innovation in the business world. The researchers claim that proactive self leaders perform their core tasks better. They go on to state that because careers are increasingly without boundaries and not confined to one organization, individuals will continually add value to their organizations as they take charge of their careers.

ATW Employee Spotlight - Susie Heathman

Susie brings an extensive training, sales and marketing background to ATW in her role as a Business Development Executive.  Her career began at Allied Insurance where she spent 15 years in various roles such as underwriting, sales, training, and management.  After Allied, she spent five years as a Recruiter for a local search firm where she partnered with major property and casualty insurance companies to recruit top talent for them.  Susie has also spent time consulting with clients on the use of eLearning/LMS services as well as HR processes and systems.

Susie has a B.A. from Central College in Pella.  She is an active member of the West Des Moines Chamber and also Co-Chairs the Chamber's Ambassador Program.

Susie has three children and resides in Pleasantville, Iowa.


ATW Training Partners with the Urbandale Chamber for Selling Your Ideas: Being More Influential

On July 18th ATW led 24 Urbandale Chamber of Commerce members thru a 90-minute session on idea persuasion!  The session was really a crash course on selling your ideas...being more influential.  Attendees learned to identify opportunities to be influencers, then learned strategies for executing that goal. By the end of the session, attendees were encouraged to go practice what they had learned immediately in their work and personal lives.
